Bad Knee Pain

As you begin to age, you will start to notice different aches and pains in different parts of your body.  One of the most common areas where people feel pain is the knee.  One in three people over the age of 45 have some issue that is related directly to their knee.  Bad knee pain can be the result of many different things.  The most common reason for knee pain among seniors is arthritis.  Arthritis is caused after the cartilage in your knee begins to wear down.  Once the bones begin to rub each other you will start to have swelling and constant pain.

The key to dealing with severe knee pain is to work on steps to help you reduce your pain.  The first thing you should do if you are looking to eliminate your pain is to strengthen the muscles surrounding your knee.  By strengthening your muscle groups surrounding your knee you can ensure that you give your knee the stability that it needs.  A good muscle that you should focus on targeting to help your knee is your quadriceps muscles.  Cycling is a great exercise to target your quads because it doesn’t impact your knee.  Using a stationary bike, you can help build up your quads to help stabilize your bad knees.

Another step you can take to reduce some of the severe knee pain is to keep your leg relaxed.  Many people who suffer from knee problems often have a difficult time trying to stop their daily activities.  When it comes to certain knee injuries, it is sometimes best to help keep it relaxed to give it time to heal.  If your knee pain comes from an acute injury, then you should consider icing your knee to help reduce some of the inflammation of the knee.  By reducing the blood circulation in your knee, you can reduce some of the pain that you are experiencing in your knee.

People who have constant knee problems should also consider using heat pads.  These pads can help relax your muscles and loosen them up before exercise.  Heat will help the blood circulate throughout your knee, often removing some of the stiffness that you may be experiencing in your knee.  Massaging your knee also works great to help reduce some of these stress and pain.  Gently rub the patella in a circular motion to help loosen unstable tissue within the knee.  This procedure can help you heal some of your scar tissue that may be causing your knee to hurt.

No matter how bad your knee pain may be, there are many solutions available.  If you keep an open mind and are willing to look around, you can find a treatment that will alleviate chronic bad knee pain.  Keeping a positive attitude is very important in helping you find a solution to your pain.
